✈ TRAVEL: Athens Photo Diary

I took a much needed holiday with my family at the beginning of winter break to Athens. It was just nice to get away from all the drama from this past term at uni and climb up mountains and gain some clarity. And the best part of family holidays was that I didn't have to plan anything and just had to follow what my brother and dad had planned :-).
Here are some photos from the trip:

*Some notes on if you're planning to go to Athens:
-Make sure to take your student ID if you have one - most tourist attractions are free for tourists
-Ticket prices for tourist attractions seem to be half off for most places in the winter
-Most main tourist attractions seemed to close around 2-3PM

BTS: Fragility of Love

Grunge'n'Art magazine recently published my friend Carrie's submission online and you should all go check it out HERE because the photos are so bomb (you'd be totally missing out if you don't go check out her photos, after reading my blog post obviously ;-))! As per usual, I was able to tag along and take some behind-the-scene photos and footage. Unfortunately, my camera died on me during the photoshoot so I only have a short, make-shift video which I've posted on Instagram (link HERE), and please excuse my old iPhone quality shots:

I've been accumulating video clips throughout the past few months trying to get together a ~summer vibes~ video. I didn't have time to edit it earlier and so it's really become more of a video to make you nostalgic about summer. Many of the scenes may look familiar if you've been following my Instagram accounts (@imblanc & @imblanc2).

It's already September, which means I'm going back to uni in a few weeks and summer is definitely over :-(. So join me in being already nostalgic over summer (especially since the temperature dropped and it started raining in London literally as soon as August ended) and watch my Summer Nostalgia video:

OUTFIT: A Cactus Among the Pumpkins

This post is kinda overdue since I went to the Victoria Miro gallery a couple weeks ago but better late than never. The weather in London is killing me with barely any sun and a weird humidity. So this is what I wore in 20 degree weather with a denim jacket and it was pretty much weather perfect - not too cold and not too hot.
Top The Whitepepper (link here) // Culottes Zara // Clutch The Whitepepper // Watch Casio

If you're around in London, I'd definitely recommend going to see 'Yayoi Kusama: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins & Chandelier of Grief' exhibition (link here). The mirrored rooms are completely mesmerising. The only tip I would give to you is that you get very little time in the rooms since they only let 2 people in at a time, so be camera ready when they let you in.
I found this top in The Whitepepper's sample sale for £10. Definitely keep an eye on their instagram or facebook page for any other upcoming sample sales because you can get a lot of their clothing for much cheaper there (e.g. this top is still available on their online website but for £20).
I have been really getting into culottes lately. They're super comfortable and high waisted culottes seem to make me look taller, which is always a plus. My friend literally looked so surprised when she saw me stating that I looked weirdly a lot taller than usual. I think pairing the culottes with platform boots probably helped in the height department as well.

This summer in London is sucking so far weather-wise and apparently it's not forecasted to go above 24 degrees for the rest of the summer. So let's pray that the forecasts are wrong and that I will be blessed with some sunlight soon.

10 Life Lessons at 20

Looking back at this academic year, I've gone through so much drama at uni, but I guess you've gotta stay positive and I have learnt some valuable life lessons along the way. So here you go, 10 life lessons I've learnt at the age of 20:
Me looking back into the darkness that was my second year at uni [photo taken by Rachel Fung]
  1. Confidence helps. Act confident enough and you'll look great in any outfit. Act confidently enough and people will think you know what you're doing even if you have no idea what's happening in your life. Walk confidently enough when crossing the road and cars will stop for you (although, you know, make sure to look both ways and try your best to minimise the chances of being run over by a car - safety first). Confidence is always attractive and even if you feel like your life is crashing down around you, you'll give off an appearance that you have your shit together.
  2. Stop telling everyone everything. As much as they say 'a problem shared is a problem halved', talking to too many people about the same problems over and over again sometimes only drags out the issue and ends up with too many people having too many opinions.
  3. Time heals most wounds. Sometimes you feel like the world is ending and you can't do anything about it. Just have faith and give yourself time. Over time, some things will matter less and the pain you feel will slowly start to go away.
  4. Look at the bigger picture. Sure some problems are a big deal, but now that I look back at my year, there were so many wasted tears on my part. I wasted so much of my time and energy on problems that don't even matter now but seemed like such a major issue at the time. "Think twice before you give a fuck".
  5. Who cares about rumours. Rumours will fly this way and that way, but honestly, who cares? Any of your close friends should know and care about you well enough to not listen to any dumb rumours about you, and anyone else who chooses to listen to and spread those dumb rumours, they're not worth your time. It's always hard to stop caring but STOP CARING ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK.
  6. Sleep sleep sleep. I don't know about anyone else, but I really don't function well with lack of sleep. And as great as caffeine is at keeping me just about awake, I'm grouchy, moody and angsty without getting enough sleep. Sleep is NOT for the weak. I'm happier with more sleep, more pleasant for others to be around and more productive.
  7. Don't force friendships. Follow your gut instinct. You just don't necessarily click with some people and that's okay. Don't try and force yourself to be friends with people when it just doesn't feel natural.
  8. You can't stop other people getting hurt. You can't try and solve everything. You can only give them advice if they ask and be there for them to help pick up the pieces after.
  9. Make more friends with girls. For some reason, most of my friends have turned out to be guys and when they're in relationships/getting into relationships, boys just bring hassle. Rumours fly, girlfriends get weary, and everything just ends up being a mess.
  10. Don't EVER meddle in someone else's relationships. Even if you had all the best intentions, wires get crossed and you end up getting too involved and things get awkward when you feel like you have to take sides and you're good friends with both sides of the couple.
